Harmonics Analysis

RjX Engineering performs harmonics analysis to quantify the harmonic conditions in an electrical system to confirm that harmonics fall within acceptable limits. The analysis includes:

Frequency scans to determine parallel and series resonance frequencies

IEEE Std 519 analysis at the point of common coupling between facility and utility

Voltage and current distortion at key locations in the system

Why is a Harmonics Analysis Needed

Harmonics analysis is typically performed to determine harmonic distortion levels and filtering requirements for a facility that contains a larger number of nonlinear loads that generate varying harmonic currents within the system.

The analysis can help uncover harmonics related issues such as failure of power factor correction capacitors, overheating of cables, transformers, motors etc. and nuisance tripping of overcurrent protective devices.
